Astir's are very high aspect ratio but due to not having any crosstube they have super easy handling. The wires add drag but the high aspect ratio compensates for this so they are the best of both worlds, easy to fly and high performance. The bowsprit also has added safety benefits in that in the event of a fluffed landing the leading edge doesn't hit the ground and instead the pilot cab swing through without hitting the ground or the leading edge.
This glider is an early example (late 90's) so has chord batten ends as opposed to the spring clip ones on the later gliders but it is in really good, hardly used condition.
